Our primary objective is to produce independent and objective research

The research team has been consistently highly rated for over a decade. In 2016 the team was ranked second for Investment Trust (Alternatives) Research in the 2016 Extel Survey, and Alan Brierley voted the number two analyst.

The research product is based around our annual handbook which is complemented by single-stock recommendations. We focus on the identification of high quality investment companies which can deliver superior risk-adjusted returns over the long-term. We are comfortable in making sell recommendations, and this has been and continues to be a differentiating feature. We focus on high conviction ideas that are driven by analysis of underlying fundamentals, rather than discounts or Z-Scores.

Our analysis of the long-term outperformance of investment companies over open-ended funds and benchmarks, the inherent competitive advantages of the closed-end structure, and our skin-in-the-game report are regularly featured in the press and continue to stimulate debate. More recently we have focused on the strong growth of the Alternative Investment Companies sector.

Sector pieces planned for 2017 include;

  • Social Infrastructure
  • Renewable energy
  • Specialist commercial property
  • Leasing funds
  • Alternative credit funds
  • Private equity funds
