Employees in the two Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management offices in Guernsey are having a clear out of their unwanted items which is helping to raise money for the charity Cancer Research UK.

The Cancer Research UK Donation Station is a nation-wide initiative to make donating items to the charity as convenient as possible. The station is placed in offices to create a drop-off point where employees can leave bags of things they no longer need. The items are then sold in Cancer Research shops and the money raised supports the charity to conduct life-saving research.

Items that can be donated include clothes, shoes, jewellery, tableware, china and books.

The items donated by employees in Guernsey will be sold in the Guernsey Cancer Research shop in St Peter Port and the money raised will go to the Southampton Hospital unit where Guernsey residents go to receive cancer treatment.

“The donation station has been really popular with employees. It’s a simple way to help support a fantastic charity and also a good opportunity to have a clear out at home which is always a popular activity at the beginning of the year,” said Anna Burgess, Director of Compliance.

“So far we’ve filled over 35 bags and the station has been emptied once already but there is still more clearing out to be done I’m sure, so that number will increase over the next few weeks.”
