Stella Yan's Story

The best example of our values are the people who work here.

New York City welcomed Stella when she was just five years old.

Her parents arrived to begin a new life in a city of diversity and opportunity.  And from an early age, Stella was taught something that would become a defining characteristic of who she is. She learned the value of a strong work ethic, and put that into practice in college and landing her first job in the financial industry, an industry by the way, that she immediately loved--- in fact, "everything about it," according to Stella.

"Nothing was handed to me. If you work hard, you should be rewarded. That's how I was raised." says Stella.

This appreciation of hard work also happens to be one of the things that Stella loves about Canaccord Genuity. "The culture here is amazing," she says, "because they recognize talent, they value and reward hard work and they treat people, no matter who you are, with respect. I feel like that's me," she adds. "I've been here for almost 10 years...and I love it." She explains: "At CG, you see the CEO or the CFO in the hallway and they say hello to you...no matter who you are, what title you have or how long you've worked there. That doesn't happen a lot at much bigger firms."

But there's a lot more to Stella than hard work. She loves a good glass of wine, going out for dinner with friends and family and yes, following the stock market. She smiles easily, speaks honestly and believes strongly in bringing a positive energy to everything she does.

"Be loyal. Have integrity. Work hard. Be balanced." 

Those are some practical words of wisdom from a person who lives them every day.
