Sapna’s journey began in Calgary, Alberta, where she was born to parents who emigrated from India. But in the early 80s, double-digit inflation forced her father, a chemical engineer, to move to Dubai, where Sapna spent much of her early childhood. From there, she left home at the young age of 13 to attend an all-girl’s high school in Boston. Her initial passion took her down the path of biomedical engineering, but she soon discovered her interest in the financial industry. “So,” says Sapna, “I switched to business accounting and went on to get my master’s in finance.”

Sapna’s enthusiasm for the industry continues to fuel her. Now, as Managing Director, Canadian Equities, Institutional Sales in CG’s Toronto office, Sapna leverages her impressive combination of characteristics and experience every day. “I service clients and build relationships. That’s what I do, and I love it.”

When it comes to CG’s culture, Sapna speaks convincingly about the unified nature of the firm. “Everyone here is on the same page,” she says. “When I came here, it was a breath of fresh air. It truly is a team environment.”

Sapna was taught a very valuable life lesson by her mother. “Make your own way, pull your own weight, and provide for yourself, she would tell me. I learned to be fearless, and I’ve been that way since I was very young. In this business, you have to be,” she says. She also lives by this motto: “Treat everyone equally and be respectful.” Sapna tries to apply that wisdom each day with her many interactions inside and outside the firm.
