Our Canadian operation, Canaccord Genuity Corp., is currently looking for a motivated team player to join us as an Associate, Research – Metals & Mining team in Vancouver.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide research support to the Research Analyst;
  • Conduct company, industry and macro-economic research;
  • Assist with writing research notes and sector reports;
  • Analyze financial statements, company-specific information and industry-specific data;
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models;
  • Coordinate, generate and maintain presentations and databases;
  • Assist with coordinating quarterly reporting initiatives;
  • Support and answer client queries;
  • Assist with special projects, presentations and initiatives as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:
 
  • A post-secondary degree in Mining Engineering or Accounting, with at least two years of related experience;
  • CFA designation an asset;
  • Superior English language verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills;
  • A demonstrable interest in capital markets;
  • Expert MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint) and Bloomberg skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills:  must be confident in speaking with and presenting to clients, team members and partners throughout all levels of the organization;
  • Ability to create high-quality deliverables while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment;
  • Good understanding of balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements for a company;
  • Direct experience with and a solid understanding of financial modeling and valuation analysis;
  • Ability to perform in a fast paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a very strong attention to detail;
  • Solid work ethic with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•    Work alongside deal teams consisting of Canaccord Genuity professionals at all levels including the senior principles, on a variety of advisory and financing transactions in the mining sector;
•    Play a key role in all aspects of developing and executing transactions, including: 
o    financial analysis
o    value analysis
o    detailed modeling
o    preparation of presentation materials
o    research of company and industry dynamics
o    conducting due diligence
o    preparation of offering documents
o    marketing transactions

Skills & Qualifications:

•    Completion of a university degree in a business-related discipline or an engineering/geology-related discipline;
•    Understanding of business, economics and/or finance acquired through education/experience/personal interest;
•    Strong technical/computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, relevant Market Data services);
•    Good communication skills; ability to explain financial and statistical analyses verbally and in writing;
•    Academic track record of excellence;
•    Previous relevant experience is preferred, particularly in metals and mining.

  • Assist in the publication of equity research reports; 
  • Database administration using custom software;
  • Liaise with various technology groups and vendor support;
  • Produce weekly usage reports and maintain research directories;
  • Manage research support mailboxes and client entitlements; 
  • Train new employees on research publishing platform; troubleshoot issues;
  • Liaise with regional and global research partners;
  • Assist Supervisory Analysts as needed;
  • Additional administrative duties as required. 

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree required;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office) are required, with a willingness to learn new software; basic programming skills an asset;
  • Attention to detail is critical, as is the ability to produce under tight deadlines;
  • Above-average work ethic; 
  • Willingness to work long hours and to be flexible
  • Previous experience in Capital Markets an asset;
