IB Advisory Summer Internship Programme 2021

Are you in your penultimate year at university and looking to launch a career in Investment Banking? If so this exciting programme could be what you are looking for!

Canaccord Genuity's Advisory Summer Internship programme provides you with the opportunity to work alongside Analysts and Associates on a project by project basis to support Directors and Managing Directors in the origination and execution of Corporate Advisory transactions. We offer a 10 week placement from July - September within the Advisory department, with potential to make permanent offers to join our Analyst programme to high performing Interns (headcount permitting).

What We Look For In Candidates

Successful Interns are passionate and committed to a career in Investment Banking, more specifically in Advisory M&A. They are able to multitask and manage a variety of projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. Candidates must demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. We look for individuals who are hardworking and eager to gain experience across a variety of different sectors that we cover. You should have a strong academic background; although a background in accounting or finance can be helpful, we hire Interns who have studied a variety of disciplines. Previous Investment Banking experience would be advantageous.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertaking valuations of businesses across a range of sectors using a variety of methodologies, including relative valuation techniques and discounted cash flow analyses, and presenting and discussing the results;
  • Detailed financial modelling and analysis including valuation and assessing the financial impact of transactions;
  • Analysing industry and sector trends, commercial analysis of individual businesses and case studies of transactions;
  • Involved in drafting marketing materials and other documentation including pitches, management presentations, valuation papers and prospectus documentation to specified deadlines;
  • Collating comments from clients and other advisers on materials produced and producing revised materials, with liaison with the relevant regulatory bodies if appropriate;
  • Day to day contact with corporate clients, advising on share price movements, market trends and producing market reports on share trading, sector movements and reviewing investor feedback;

Associate Analyst, Equity Research

Summary/Purpose of role 

Situated on the trading floor within the Research department, the key priority for this role is to contribute to the group’s stock coverage responsibilities by providing analysis of Mining stocks. This role will also support the Mining Research Analyst in the creation of objective, timely and relevant research to facilitate our clients making profitable decisions. Assistance on regular updates should be provided on issues as directed by the Mining team. 

Role Responsibilities 

  •  To support the Mining Resarch Analyst in the provision of strong fundamental research allowing us to service institutional investors with sufficent intensity to drive vote capture and support the interface with the Advisory, Broking and Sales departments. 
  • Creating financial moelling charts an updating them regularly.
  • Maintaining models, industry databases and summary valuation data.
  • Researching and analysing securities data.
  • Simplifying dense and complex financial data and generating reports.
  • Compliling financial statement analysis.
  • Monitoring news flow around the Mining sector. 

Experience 

  •  Degree educated with a minimum 2:1 indeally in Geological or Mining Engineering, and/ or 2 years relevant sector experience. 
  •  A strong interest in the Mining sector is important, and broad exposure across georgraphies and commodities is ideal. 
  • Knowledge of financial accounting and/ or financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of equity valuation.
  • Strong commerical awareness in regards to Mining and other connected sectors.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to distil complex problems into concise outputs. 
  • Previous equity markets experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Previous experience in a business development role would be advantageous but is not esstential. 
  • Advance Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint and Word.
