Marcus Freeman is the Chief Executive Officer of Canaccord Genuity Australia (CG) and has led the business since its formation as BGF Equities in 2008. Marcus oversaw BGF Equities’ transition to become CG Australia following a transaction with the Toronto-headquartered parent in 2011 which saw CG enter Australia for the first time since its own inception in 1960.
Marcus oversees CG’s Australian operations and has served on the firm’s Global Operating Committee since its formation in 2013. Approaching thirty years of experience in the financial services industry, he has played a pivotal role in positioning CG Australia as a leading capital markets business and in more recent years as a rapidly growing wealth management business with over $10bn in assets under management and $27bn in total assets under advice. Today, CG Australia is an increasingly important part of the global Canaccord Genuity business with approximately 360 local employees operating from seven offices nationally.
Marcus is deeply entrenched in CG Australia’s social and charitable activities having helped establish several of the firm’s core partnerships which now include Raise, Ronald McDonald House, Save a Child’s Heart and Redkite. Marcus also served on the Development Board of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute between 2016 and 2023.
Post university, Marcus commenced his finance career joining PWC's graduate program in 1996 in the Audit & Business Services group. Marcus subsequently relocated to London and served at Rabobank’s London operation and subsequently at Deutsche Bank London before returning to Australia to commence with Bell Potter Securities in the early 2000s, before co-founding BGF Equities in 2008.
