Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer, Canaccord Genuity Group Inc.
Sheldon Freeman was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. in January 2026 with responsibility for ensuring unified oversight of all legal functions for the Group and its subsidiaries.
With three decades of corporate and securities law experience, Sheldon previously served as a Partner at Goodman’s LLP, where he developed a substantial practice for securities law, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions. Widely recognized for his ability to resolve complex issues with both precision and practicality, his expertise in corporate governance and involvement in high-profile transactions have consistently placed him among the top tier of his peers.
As a former member of the Securities Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), Sheldon has also advised the OSC on legislative and policy initiatives, as well as capital markets trends.
His professional achievements have been acknowledged by several leading industry publications. Sheldon has been named a leading lawyer by Best Lawyers in Canada in corporate, leveraged buyouts and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and securities law; by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in corporate finance & securities and M&A; and by Lexology Index Canada for mergers and acquisitions. Sheldon holds a JD from Osgoode Law School (1995) and a B.A. in Political Science, along with a Diploma in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
