Canaccord Genuity in the community

At Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management we are driven by an unwavering commitment to building long-term relationships with our clients and the community. One of the ways we do this is by supporting a busy programme of local community events and sponsorships, many of which fall under the umbrella of sport.

We recognise the benefits of an active lifestyle in relation to mental wellbeing and performance in the workplace and so #cando has become the overarching theme for all our sporting corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity. It includes a whole range of events from the Isle of Man Sportive to the Guernsey Inter-firm Relay.

#cando = Can(accord) + ‘do’

The definition of ‘can do’ in the Oxford English dictionary is ‘having or showing a determination or willingness to take action and achieve results’.

In 2018 we challenged our own staff to get active and raise money so we could make a #cando-themed charitable donation. The aim was to clock up enough miles between us to travel 1,280 miles in one year – the distance between all our offices in the UK and Crown Dependencies. Our staff managed to smash it and racked up a phenomenal 125,166 miles (five times around the world!) through various activities, from running and walking to cycling and swimming.

As a result, we are delighted to partner UK-based TeamedUp to support 10 athletes as they prepare for the next Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo in 2020. TeamedUp has been working with elite British athletes and business supporters since 2009, using the inspiration of sport to achieve business goals. You can follow our 10 inspiring athletes on their journey by keeping up to date with our blogs and social media.

I love Boccia. I really like the competitive element of the sport as it’s very physically demanding and intense; something that’s not realised by people watching from the side lines.

When I was younger, all I wanted to do was play football with my friends. Unfortunately, this was rather difficult because I was in a wheelchair and schools were not as inclusive as they are now. So, I turned to wheelchair basketball.
