How we select stocks

Our UK stock selection committees are made up of experienced stock pickers from our offices in London, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales, as well as some of our regional offices. Meeting at least twice a month, the committees work closely with our dedicated equity analysts.

The committee focuses on a mix of sectors, styles as well as both top-down themes and bottom-up ideas. They look closely at our latest in-house research and other trustworthy external research. They also check other external information resources such as Bloomberg, the major global provider of 24-hour financial news and information, including price data and trading news.

They also use Canaccord Genuity’s own proprietary analytical tool, Quest®, which acts as both a valuation and a risk management tool across 18,000 stocks and helps to identify companies that are more likely to offer attractive cash returns for investors.

What is Quest®?

Quest® is Canaccord Genuity’s own proprietary equity valuation and analytical tool, created to generate and compare investment ideas across sectors and markets. It helps us to evaluate new investment opportunities by analysing around 18,000 companies, covering around 95% of the world's total market capitalisation.

This enables us to identify companies that are likely to generate attractive cash returns for our clients.

For more than 20 years, it's been providing information for some of the world's largest institutional investors, thanks to its high level of data integrity and superior functionality.

Quest® was designed to:

  • Analyse corporate wealth creation by looking at returns, key value drivers and capital allocation decisions
  • Help investors think like owners rather than short-term investors
  • Provide a robust valuation framework, including cash flow modelling and more conventional approaches.

We combine Quest® with our qualitative overlay and disciplined approach to relative valuation, in order to produce portfolios that aim to generate excellent consistent returns for our clients.

Quest® is registered in the UK and in the USA, and common law trade mark rights are asserted in other jurisdictions. Quest® is produced by Canaccord Genuity Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Investment involves risk. The value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up and you may not get back the amount originally invested. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

Our portfolios are designed to work over a typical investment cycle of 7-10 years, so we recommend you stay invested for at least seven years.
