Summary/Overview

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join our London team, focused on improving the effectiveness of our capital markets operations. This role requires a strategic and analytical thinker who can assess current processes, identify areas for improvement, and lead the implementation of operational changes. They will will work closely with stakeholders across the business to gather requirements, analyse data, and deliver insights that drive continuous improvement and support informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Identification of opportunities: establishing a deep understanding of the capital markets business and its operations, working with senior management, business stakeholders and functional heads to identify new opportunities for improving current business operations, considering the overall company objectives in maintaining an overall effective governance arrangement, complying with the relevant regulatory requirements and good market practice

  • ​Technology application: establishing the latest understanding in new technologies and tools that are available for the capital markets business; performing cost - benefit analysis and recommending to senior management including Head of Information Technology on use cases

  • ​Data Analysis: performing and utilising data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights related to business performance and operational efficiency opportunities

  • ​Requirement documentation: documenting business requirement for new projects and initiatives, working closely with project sponsor and IT to establish appropriate work and project plans

  • ​Project Management: Working closely with all key stakeholders in managing project deliverables and milestones. Monitoring key performance indicators and provide regular updates on project status and progress to senior management

  • ​Quality Assurance and Testing: working closely with IT to establish testing cases, performing and overseeing quality assurance and testing procedures for new systems and software applications, documenting results for go live approval

  • Market Data Monitoring: Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices by conducting basic research and sharing findings with the team

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Relevant Degree (Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems or Finance based) or certifications (Certified Business Analysis Professional, Agile Analysis Certification etc) would be beneficial
  • Minimum 5+ years’ work experience in  Financial Services or Professional Services in the relevant banking industry
  • Strong data and logical mindset
  • Proficiency in creating detailed documentation including Business Requirement Documents, Functional Requirement Documents and Report writing
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience and understanding of user acceptance testing (UAT) and Quality Assurance (QA) including test automation techniques
  • While not mandatory, familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java and C# would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience identifying opportunities for automation within business processes using CoPilot, PowerAutomate or other equivalent tools/applications
  • Anticipated to be in the office minimum 4 days per week
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel for data manipulation and analysis
  • Good knowledge of MS SQL and query writing
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI

Summary/Overview

Working within the Financial Services team, you will have the opportunity to provide financial advisory services on a wide range of strategic transactions (including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and re-structuring), capital-raising projects and debt financing mandates to financial institutions.

Working directly for an Associate/Vice President on a project by project basis to support Directors and Managing Directors in the Investment Banking Team in the origination and execution of corporate advisory transactions.  This role will also provide support and guidance to Interns and junior Analysts, where appropriate.

The Role

  • Undertaking valuations of businesses using a variety of methodologies, including relative valuation techniques, leverage buyout models and discounted cash flow analyses, and presenting and discussing the results with the project team, clients and prospective clients;
  • Undertaking detailed financial modelling and analysis including valuation and assessing the financial impact of transactions;
  • Analysing industry and sector trends, commercial analysis of individual businesses and case studies of transactions;
  • Drafting and reviewing marketing materials and other documentation including pitches, teasers, information memorandums, management presentations, strategic review papers, valuation papers and admission / prospectus documents;
  • Collating comments from the project team, clients and other advisers on materials produced and working with the team to produce revised materials; and
  • Involved in transaction process management, supporting Associates / Vice Presidents to ensure projects run smoothly, expected to attend most meetings, and to work directly with the client’s Finance Director and other senior management.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • At least 18 months experience in M&A from a reputable Investment Bank/Boutique ideally within the Financial Institutions team, or three years' experience within the financial services division of one of the Big 4.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of CISI Level 3 Certification in Corporate Finance or a qualification as a Chartered Accountant would be advantageous.
  • ​Highly numerate.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and reliable, self-starter, motivated and ambitious.
  • Team player capable of fitting in with the collegiate culture.
  • Valuation and financial modelling experience.
  • Excellent Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills.

  • Finance Director and other senior management. 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • At least 4 years experience in direct sell-side M&A from a reputable Investment Bank/Boutique.
  • ​Educated to Degree level or equivalent with a minimum 2:1 grade.
  • ​Completion of CISI Level 3 Certification in Corporate Finance would be advantageous.
